I had posted awhile ago about a ticking noise when I first started the
engine. It was a very annoying and embarrassing noise. The general
response was that my valve lifters were dirty. So, I went and bought this
oil additive called Valve Medic by Gunk. I put that in, ran it for awhile
and then changed the oil. And the next time I started it when the engine
was cold, the ticking noise was gone. There is an ever so slight tick at
idle, but when I rev it, there isn't any embarrassing tick.
Thanks to everyone, who gave some input.

Guys,
This has been threaded a million times but I have to give a success story (as somebody else
did-which ended up in the archives).
My VR6 has been making noises forever. I recently had a boatload of warranty work done (incl head
gasket, upper and lower timing chains, gears, tensioners, and guides).
I got my car back and the sounds that I was used to were gone-well, mostly.
My ticking noise was still there. I never had this problem with my Factory motor. When they put
a VW rebuild in at 55K miles the ticking started about 5K miles after that.
There is ONE post in the archives (please add this one to it) regarding engine ticking and the
solution to it.
Mine was audible while driving and was directly related to revving.
So, what I did today is read a post in the archives about somebody who put "Valve Medic" by Gunk
(pep boys etc...) in. I put two containers of it in and drove for two minutes.
The tick is completely gone. I have changed the oil (to get that Gunk crap outta there) and have
been totally cured of the problem.
Now, If it comes back I'll know what to do.
Later,
Nater

Just as I promised. I told you all that if it came back I'd let you know.
So it was a quick fix but it didn't last long.
When I install my cams I'll just install new lifters too.
Is this an easy task?
They come right out when I pull out my cams, right?
Anything else I should know?
Later,
Nater
