A design change of the PCV valve

While checking hoses and such last week, the crankcase ventilation hose fell
apart when I tugged it (about half an inch from where it joins the cylinder
head, the valve thingy that the evap hose connects to).

Anyway, I went to the dealer, they couldn't find it on the microfilm so we
went and read the part number and they ordered it for me (*#@^ £43 !!).

Next day when I went to collect it they said it had been discontinued, it
appears the PCV system has been re-designed (perhaps because it leaked so
much) and you have to replace the whole lot (*&^* *&*&ing £93 !!!!)

There were none in the country so it's coming from Germany, should get it
(whatever 'it' actually is) later this week.

Does anyone know anything about this design change?

(for those that don't know £1 = ~$1.60, then there's 17.5% tax on top too)
